I am 32 and have glaucoma. How can I reduce eye pressure?

Alternative treatment for glaucoma should be monitored in close partnership with your GP - if symptoms are acute, seek medical help. Glaucoma is increased pressure in the eye (intraocular pressure or IOP) resulting from a greater production than outflow of fluid from the eye. Vitamin C has been shown to lower IOP, although many people need very high doses to make a difference. Bioflavonoids (from blue and red berries) increase the effectiveness of the vitamin C. Allergies or chromium deficiency can contribute to chronic glaucoma. Magnesium helps to relax the muscles around the eye, improving blood supply, fluid flow and vision. Omega 3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation. For details of a nutritionist in your area, call 020-8877 9993.

I have sore, dry, red patches at the sides of my mouth . They started to appear after I suffered a miscarriage. The pharmacist ruled out cold sores and recommended Cymex cream.

Red, sore patches at the corners of the mouth are known as angular stomatitis. Common causes are candida, allergies and vitamin B deficiencies, especially riboflavin (B2). The stress of your miscarriage may have triggered vitamin and mineral deficiencies or immune suppression leading to allergy. Stress can upset the balance of digestive flora, leading to candida. Supplement with Blackmores Executive B Complex, Bio Zinc, Bio C 1,000mg, Fish Oil 1000 and Acidophilus Bifidus, Solgar Vitamin B2 and B6, and apply Jurlique Tea-Tree Acti-moist topically on sores (all from Blackmores, 08707 700976).
