Officials are putting their bird flu plans to the test this week during a real-time simulation of an outbreak of the disease in Britain.
Hundreds of people are taking part in Exercise Hawthorn, set three days into an outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain being "identified" on a free-range farm in Norfolk, along with two suspect cases, on a turkey farm in northern England and an egg unit in Wales.
Run by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the exercise involves foreign governments as well as the MoD, police, farmers, veterinarians and sports organisations.
