MPs will try again today to end the right of fertility clinics to refuse treatment to single women and lesbians.
Campaigners say a rule requiring "the need for a father" to be considered in IVF decisions is discrimination.
Despite the relaxation of rules on adoption by same-sex couples, many women are believed to still face rejection by clinics.
Last year, the situation was branded "offensive" to unconventional families by the Commons science and technology select committee.
Its report will be the subject of a debate in the Commons today, which MPs hope to use to force the government to take action.
