A woman undergoing fertility treatment has died after a rare medical complication.

Leicester royal infirmary yesterday confirmed the death of the patient, who has not been named, but said the exact cause was still unknown.

IVF is considered a safe procedure. Women are given drugs to stimulate their ovaries to produce an abnormally large number of eggs. Sometimes hyperstimulation occurs, which can result in a woman needing hospital care. But according to the Sun, the woman who died on Monday suffered complications during egg retrieval that led to renal failure.
