Maximum Replenish, £40/50ml, by Elemis, 01278 727830
According to Elemis, the skin's cells are at their most receptive during sleep - which is when this calming cream supposedly works best. Rich yet delicate texture. this definitely perked up my skin by morning - and it looked less grey within days.

Good in Bed, £39, by Prescriptives, 0870 034 2566
Hydrating and luxurious moisturiser that lives up to its name. It makes a difference to your complexion because it contains subtle 'tanners' to enhance natural colour - my skin had a sunnier glow the next morning.

Herbal Recovery Night Mist, £33, by Jurlique, jurlique.co.uk
A botanical 'mist' that rehydrates and restores skin at night. Difficult to detect any significant change to complexion but it does feel lovely. Gorgeous smell of rose, calendula and marshmallow - could double as floral eau de parfum.

Midnight Secret, £54.50, by Guerlain, 01932 233887
The supermodels' favourite, this lush and velvety cream will revive the most sleep-deprived skin; I know, I tried it on five hours' sleep and it did help to reduce that telltale grey pallor. Addictive.

Moisturelush eye cream, £21.50, by Mac, 020-7534 9222
Densely hydrating cream that helps to de-puff under the eyes. Rich and yet easily absorbed, it left my skin feeling smoother the next day - it's also particularly good on dry skin underneath concealer or foundation.

Noctogenist, £24, by Kerastase, 0800 316 4400
An overnight treatment for tired-looking hair. Going to bed with greasy hair steeped in conditioner isn't appealing, yet you barely notice this lightweight spray. Best to avoid roots and stick to dry ends - which improve after a few nights' use.
