It was only a matter of time: the masks are out. Yes, people have been spotted sporting surgical face masks in the UK amid fears of a swine flu pandemic .

Three fellow Guardian reporters en route to work saw people donning masks, and several sightings have been reported in London on Twitter, including one on the London underground's Northern line.
