Wanted: volunteers to eat chocolate for a year

Study into benefits of dark chocolate starts looking for 40 post-menopausal women with diabetes

It is not an offer from Willy Wonka but a serious study into the benefits of dark chocolate. Researchers from the University of East Anglia are looking for 40 post-menopausal women with type 2 diabetes willing to eat two pieces of Belgian chocolate a day for 365 days in return for having their health tested. Dr Peter Curtis, leading the study, explained the project is the second stage of a study looking at whether the compounds can help reduce heart disease. He said: "A successful outcome could be the first step in developing ways to improve the lives of people at increased risk of heart disease."
