British people rank 18th in the world when it comes to wellbeing, according to a new report by the Earth Institute of Columbia University. But we aren't as happy-go-lucky as the Australians, Irish and Americans, who come in 9th, 10th and 11th respectively – not to speak of the northern European quartet Denmark, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands, who sit at the top of the league.
Economist Jeffrey Sachs, who co-authored the report, found that while wealth and happiness were linked, other factors, such as a sense of community, became much more important than money once a basic level of wealth was achieved. These were the factors that helped Scandinavian nations to the top spots.
We'd like to hear if you think you'd be happier abroad. Where would you go if you left the UK? How do you think you could live a better life overseas?
