I’m 37 – is it worth keeping private medical insurance?

I’ve only ever used it once, and I’m thinking of ditching it until I’m in my 50s

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it’s up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday’s paper.

I′m 37 and have been in my company private medical insurance scheme for five years. I didn′t realise just how much it was costing me (in benefit in kind deductions, plus the extra I pay for my wife to be a member) considering I have only ever used it once, for some physio. Realistically are people my age wasting money on this? Should I ditch it and rejoin when I′m in my 50s?
