Some British doctors are misdiagnosing milk allergy symptoms in babies and sometimes recommending inappropriate milk substitutes, according to a survey published yesterday. The survey of 500 doctors across Europe, including 100 in the UK, by Act Against Allergy, found that some doctors recommend soy-based infant formula if they suspect cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) in infants, despite advice from the Department of Health. Act Against Allergy has a grant from SHS International, which produces an amino acid-based, hypoallergenic infant formula.
