Ever spent a night in hospital?

Yes, I had a concussion. At college I did that thing of holding on to the bike rather than putting a hand out. Apparently women do that: if you push a woman down the stairs holding a cup of tea, in theory she holds on to the cup because she thinks it's a baby.

Do you worry about your weight?

The truthful answer is: yes, of course, but I try not to obsess about it. When I got pregnant with my first child I gained nearly 5st. I did a bit of pretending: "I'm just really small, so I just put on a lot of weight when I'm pregnant." That is true, but I also ate a lot of cake.

What exercise do you take?

I wear MBTs [Masai Barefoot Technology shoes] and I walk everywhere, and I have heavy children I push in a rubbish pram - that's resistance training.

How do you relax?

Nagging my husband, baking muffins and doing slidey painting with the kids in the garden.

How much sleep do you need?

More than I'm getting - I'm ageing in dog years.

Do you smoke?

I haven't for a while now. I enjoyed smoking, because I'm not very good at mingling, and nothing makes you feel more secure than holding some fire between you and somebody quite frightening.

Are you happy?

Yeah. I love being a mum in a way I didn't anticipate. My mother always worked and thought staying at home was a bit twee, and that you should get your act together and do something useful. Now I think that's the most useful thing you can do: bring up some non-criminals.

Is sex important to you?

That's quite related to the sleep question - the more sleep I've had the more interested I am.

How do you feel about cosmetic surgery?

I'm feeling incredibly Botox-tempted as my face collapses around my shoulders. There's talk in the papers of a Bridget Jones 3 - I look like Renée Zellweger's mother now - but I won't do Botox: I'm too poor and too chicken.
