Pupils at an infants' school have been asked to stay at home today after cases of the E coli bug were discovered among the children.

The 64 children who attend Abercynon school, near Merthyr Tydfil, will stay at home until they have been tested and given the all-clear. The school had been unaffected by the outbreak in 42 schools, mainly in south Wales valleys, that has claimed one life.

Police are still investigating the outbreak after the death last month of a five-year-old boy who caught the bug. Pupils who test negative for E coli may return to school at the end of the week.
