Blood poisoning from a lip piercing caused the death of Daniel Hindle, 17, a promising A-level student, an inquest in Sheffield heard yesterday.
Daniel, a keen snowboarder, who had been described as healthy in a check-up before the piercings, developed a fever and began vomiting a fortnight after getting a ring placed in his lip at the Sheffield shop Body Poppers.
His girlfriend, Naomi Storey, who had a piercing at the same time, three years ago, suffered infections and bleeding. She told the inquest she had worried about the level of hygiene at the shop. The inquest continues today.
