I am a 50-year-old man who has suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder since I was 14. I spend hours washing, but I'm sure people think I smell horrible. I feel embarrassed and depressed, and will soon not have the confidence to go out.

The Australian Bush Flower Remedies (from FlowerSense, 020-8567 9412) would help enormously: they work gently on both mind and spirit. Boronia quietens obsessive thoughts that go round and round in your mind. Billy Goat Plum encourages acceptance, rather than revulsion, of your body. Five Corners will boost your self-esteem and confidence. Add seven drops of each to a 15ml bottle of 75% purified water and 25% brandy (as preservative) and shake. Take seven drops under the tongue first thing in the morning and last thing at night for a month. Then take Purifying Essence - seven drops every night and morning - for two weeks. If required, then go back to the first combination of remedies for another month.

I have permanent lower back pain due to an old injury. I'm now pregnant and don't want to take painkillers such as morphine because I am concerned about the effects on my baby.

Both acupuncture and hypnotherapy have a long history of effective pain relief. The benefits to you and your baby will be great, and they might also provide pain relief for a drug-free birth. Contact the Acupuncture Council (020-8735 0400) or the British Hypnotherapy Association (020-7723 4443; british-hypnotherapy-association.org). Also, try the Chillow, a pillow that is activated once, and remains cool and soothing (from Soothsoft, 01494 880860).
