What is the average penis size?
A new study has attempted to address this question by conducting a systematic review of studies measuring penis size in adults to determine the distribution of size and girth within the population.
One of the aims of the research was to produce nomograms of penis size versus the proportion of the population that had that sized penis, to allow clinicians, and people generally, to determine where they fall in the distribution.
In a statement, lead author David Veale from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience in the UK, said: “We believe these graphs will help doctors reassure the large majority of men that the size of their penis is in the normal range.
“We will also use the graphs to examine the discrepancy between what a man believes to be their position on the graph and their actual position, or what they think they should be.”
Here, I’ve converted the nomogram for penis length into an interactive calculator to make it easier to see where specific lengths fall (though with some important caveats - see the notes):
You can read more about the study here, and read the paper in the journal BJUI International here.
It’s worth reading the limitations section of the study in particular when interpreting the results - the authors acknowledged that there may be significant variation in measurements across studies due to environmental conditions, as well as some bias being introduced from volunteers being more likely to come forward if they were more confident with their penis size.
